The Art Of Surrendering & How It Can Make Space For More Positives

When we talk about surrendering, oftentimes, people think we are saying giving up. Giving up is hopelessness. Which very much gives us a vibe of no energy, lifelessness and death.

Surrendering, on the other hand, takes much more courage and trust, and it is an important tool or exercise that all of us must learn in order to be healthy psychologically.

So let me give you a very simple example of how you might exercise surrendering:

You said something on social media and your words somehow got misunderstood, misinterpreted and people start slamming you. You get attacked by people such as friends, and even strangers, and you feel so victimised and vulnerable.

You keep thinking about it, and you take what they have said to heart, and you feel so bruised that you cannot seem to function. You start to wonder if people really hate or dislike you that much?

You talk about it with friends, and you get so upset that your days are just ruined.

In these types of situations, can you actually do anything about it? You can’t. Because any explanation from you is going to make it worse. You will appear defensive, and you will only look like you’re trying to explain yourself out of the situation. Why? Because people have a fixed idea of who and what you are already, and they are not ready to change their minds anytime soon.

So in these types of situations, in order to have peace of mind, you need to consciously surrender.

Here are the steps:
  1. On a piece of paper, write down the situation at hand. Writing helps you flush out the energies from your mind and your emotional body.
  2. And then you may say a prayer to release the situation, you may choose to burn the paper or just shred the paper.
  3. You consciously let all the situation and the people involved go completely with an understanding that the truth will be revealed someday. And you do this within your heart. You must feel a sense of letting go, sort of like emptying your heart as you do this.
If you prefer to do this via meditation, instead of writing down on paper, you may visualise the situation in a bubble floating away into the sky, leaving your heart and mind completely.

As you surrender, do you pick it up again, to talk about it, or mull over it? In your heart and mind, you must know that it is over. You are no longer engaging with the energies in your heart and mind, you have broken up with the situation.

Breaking up with situations like these has a powerful psychological impact on you. It allows you to make space for positive stuff and situations to enter into your life.

Now move on.
