Guilt does not serve as a reminder to make us better people

We, humans, are such strange creatures, we hold on to things that are not healthy for us, we fear them, and yet we have a strange attachment to them. Because in our unconscious, we feel as if without that which is causing us to fear, we might not be alive! So we often hold onto guilt feelings and guilt thoughts. And this can manifest in many different aspects of our lives. We feel guilty about not being a better parent, a better spouse, a better partner, a better worker, employee, a better boss, a better business owner and so on.

Guilt can paralyse us and really stops us from being our best and these guilty feelings and energies can hold us back. When these emotions get embedded deep in our energy system over long periods of time, they can cause a lot of diseases not just physically but emotionally and mentally as well. And on the spiritual level, it can retard our growth process and not allow us to progress further on the spiritual path.

The thing is, we can get so used to the feelings of guilt that we start to think that it is normal. And we give ourselves the excuse that it is completely human and normal to have guilt. The problem with this is that it disempowers us and we feel powerless to do anything about the situation.

I had an experience with a group of mothers many years ago when my daughter was still a toddler. It was a social meet up group, and the working mothers were sharing about how guilty they were feeling about not spending enough time with their kids. The consensus seemed to be: "It is pretty normal, don’t worry about it." So everyone was supporting each other’s guilt. The problem with this was that nobody talked about how NOT to experience the guilt.

We can admit that having guilt is part of the human experience but if we want to become Self and Soul realised humans, and to be able to develop emotionally, mentally and spiritually, then it is important to be able to recognise that using guilt as an excuse for being human is preventing us from claiming who we truly are.

Self-awareness is the key.

We are much more than our mundane human emotions and thoughts. We have the power to change and transform our human experiences. We are not doomed to experience these negative emotions, we have been empowered to change these feelings/emotions so that we have better human experiences to strive towards Self and Soul Realization.

Here are a few simple steps to release guilt:

  • When you have a first awareness of guilt feelings/thoughts, in your mind’s eye, place these feelings and thoughts in a bubble.
  • As you release these bubbles, you become aware that these bubbles are connected to you via cords of energies.
  • Visualise that you are cutting these cords so that you may release the bubbles.
  • As the bubbles are released up into the air, see flames in the sky consuming these bubbles, allowing the energies to be transformed and released as golden light rain.

Acknowledge that you have the power to release and transform the energies of guilt into something much more productive. On a practical level, put on your thinking cap, and brainstorm for better and more empowering ways to deal with the situation/s and go for a win-win for all. Do work on this with a partner, colleague, someone you trust, or a life coach. It beats allowing guilt to take control over your life.

Remember this: it is important to know that you can replace the negativity in your life with something positive. Guilt does not serve as a reminder to make us better people.
